Synopsis

I am a Windows Administrator with an emphasis on Internet activity.  While my specialty is IIS as a web/application server, I am also conversant with Apache and all J2EE Application Servers.  Moreover, I have been a Microsoft Network Administrator with over a decade and a half of experience in Active Directory, GPO’s, SSL’s, SQL, Exchange, Virtual environments, WebHosting/Transaction-based data connections and effectively all MS servers produced between 1996 and 2016.

·               Sixteen years Plus (16+) Years of IT experience that includes Windows NT/2000, UNIX, Linux and Macintosh Network Administration experience on an extremely wide variety of hardware platforms.

·               Twenty years plus (20+) working with the Window platform from configuring Windows Server 3.51 to handle winsock connections to the internet, to running Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008 (including R2), and 2012 (including R2).  Included in this in a common understanding of SMB 1.0, 2.0, 2.1, and 3.0

Served as packaging developer (utilizing BladeLogic) to move code and manage configurations within the Morgan-Stanley web environment, emphasizing Microsoft/IIS/SharePoint/SQL issues and problem troubleshooting.  In particularly focused on security and safe code deployment and configuration management. As a member of WebHosting Team, migrated all production functionality from various Data Centers to the Data Centers in Omaha and Chandler, negotiating around third Party problems of Python and ColdFusion (7 and 8), dealing with re-architecting IIS 5, 6, and 7 (as well as quarterly upgrades of Apache, JBoss, etc), negotiating Oracle issues (client and server), verifying clustering and interacting with almost all elements of J2EE (Tomcat, JRun, JBoss, and WebSphere).  Functioned as a Windows Administration lead (IIS, ColdFusion, XML, Reverse Proxy [Apache and ISA], ISA, Business Objects XI Crystal Reports, WebTrends, Connect:Direct) as project relief in emergency situations.  Also served as a deployment/configuration management resource in Windows, Linux, Tomcat and JBoss. Tested/developed Windows scripts and methods for deploying between QA, production and DR. Managed implementing the Google Search Appliance in Corporate environment by molding the search appliance to meet the needs of the departments (marketing, sales, and service) in International as well as the company-wide SharePoint Portal.  Also charged with implementing HP SiteScope; permitting enhanced configuration management of Windows systems (including Exchange, IIS, and SharePoint Services, as well as failover clusters (load balanced and fault tolerant. Project included test WebTrends with Google Web Analytics. Worked extensively with WebHosting in ITEC environment (XML-based MQ-Series, Oracle, DB2 and MSMQ).  Introduced Microsoft Powershell into the ITEC environments, developing scripts to better monitor and manage windows, verifying failover and load-balancing, as well as auditing access privileges and the implementation of GPO’s.

Team member on the project team tasked with a consolidation order to migrate network services from its current physical setting (all servers/services, including IIS, clusters, load-balancing, Exchange, SQL Server 2000, SharePoint, and DFS/AD) to a virtual environment.  Focused on the offices in Chicago, project entailed creating, testing and documenting the migration to a VMware ESX system.  Also individually tasked with building plan for centralized monitoring of the entire domain with MOM and System Center.

As Part of the Platform Architecture team, charged with moving the newly acquired Fleet/Columbia Management Web Sites, Applications, and Services Bank of America servers.  The migration included moving, re-designing and troubleshooting Fleet/CMG NT 4.0 to IIS 6.0, as well as moving .NET Remoting and Linux-based PHP applications.  Also had to redesign data connections to webs.

·   Architected automated system builds (Windows 2000, IIS 5, and SQL 2000) for roll-outs of new IIS/SQL web servers using unattended install floppies, scripts (.MSI, InstallShield, ADSI, WMI, and WSH), and group policies of Active Directory.

Alteon WebSystems, San Jose, CA....................Senior System Analyst......................March 2000-July 2000

Alteon WebSystems pioneered the concept of web switching and is a leading provider of high-speed Internet switches and load-balancing solutions, with yearly revenues over $175 million.  In 2001, Alteon WebSystems held 50 percent of the switching market in Layer 4-7 switching, and 81 percent of the gigabit Ethernet segment. Nortel announced their decision to acquire Alteon in July 2001.

Performed Support for local and field SE and Sales staff on configuration problems, VPN misconfigurations, Disparate email system conflicts (Exchange/sendmail), and the resurrection of failed systems; Aided with Windows NT system administration issues dealing with Mail (Exchange and Sendmail), DNS (Windows, Linux, and SunOS), and replication/back-up issues between NT and Exchange servers in U.S. and various parts of the world (Hong Kong, London, Beijing);

·   Designed VPN up-grade roll-out with .MSI-based design, automating up-grades for SE’s in the field

·   Developed plan for migration from NT 4 to Windows 2000/Active Directory based on security between groups and offices.

·   Used trouble-shooting techniques and 3^rd-party tools (Quest, ProductivityPoint, etc.) to help build SE’s equipment for flexibility and productivity.

Zangle.Com, Cupertino, CA.....................Senior System Administrator..................December 1999-March 2000

A pre-IPO effort, Zangle helped forge the educational portal possibilities by porting school records to the Internet, allowing parents to interact with the schools outside of the school and school hours.  While funding never developed for Zangle, the effort did have a long-term effect growing out of its work in setting Internet DTD standards for primary and secondary education.

Responsible for setting up and maintaining multiple server/multiple domain environment for about 100 developers split between Cupertino and Santa Cruz; Managed Windows NT web servers for pre-IPO Portal operating in a development environment focused on XML and Java (ported to either IIS, Netscape, or Apache) operating out of a SQL/Oracle environment and ported through a high security setup; Maintained Microsoft Exchange servers and Internet Mail Connector (IMC) based in Cupertino; Duties ranged from administering SourceSafe and Goldmine databases to maintaining all backups (Omniback and BackupExec), all the while insuring the highest-level security for the network and the VPN (via use of SSL/SSH between offices and Check Point Firewall 1 connection between development and our co-located production site); Assisted developers in packaging database transport tools in InstallShield wrapper as well as maintaining a CMS server to production sites.

Diocese of San Jose, Santa Clara, CA..........Manager, Information Systems......March 1998- November 1999

The administrative arm of the Catholic Church in Santa Clara County, the Diocese oversees the finance and Infrastructure for 54 parishes and 28 schools.  Under the direction of the Bishop, the Diocese of San Jose is the most technologically advanced in the world.

Maintaining all computer services to the Diocese's offices, which includes NT Servers, Mac file server, Network Appliance Fileserver, and a XENIX Server; also responsible for up grading SW/HW to meet needs (particularly the Y2K issues), as well as developing services to improve overall operations. Position required everything from helpdesk functions in answering staff questions about MS Office, to resolving network deficiencies, to rebuilding a poorly planned server-wiring-network system and implementing upgrades in all areas at a rock bottom cost.

·   Resolved the Y2K issues confronting the Diocese [i.e., only 2 of over 60 computers passed the Y2K bios test] without exceeding the inherited budget for the Department.

·   Architected web server and central site (via FTP upload) for Diocese, and all parishes, schools, and associated groups.
